1. وزير مصر أَعِدْها أصدقَ الخطبِ

    واشرح بيانك حر السعي والطلبِ

    O Minister of Egypt, prepare the most honest speech,

    And explain your statement, the free quest and demand,

  2. وأسمع القوم عن مرماك ما ألفوا

    أن يسمعوا عن مرامي القادة النجب

    And let the people hear from your goals what they are used to,

    To hear from the goals of the eminent leaders.

  3. عرفت كل خفيٍّ من سياستهم

    وقد ملكت إليهم قوة السبب

    I knew every hidden thing of their politics,

    And I have given them the power of reason.

  4. أعيا جبابرةَ الدنيا مراسُهُمُ

    فجئتهم من طريق العلم والأدب

    I weary the tyrants of the world with their milestones,

    So I came to them through the path of knowledge and discipline.

  5. ترضيهم بعد ما أرضوك واحترموا

    جميع حقك فيما كان من غضب

    Satisfy them after they have pleased you and respected

    All your right in what was of anger,

  6. تريد بالعهد منهم والوفاء لهم

    عهد البلاد على الأقدار والحقب

    You want from them the covenant and loyalty to them

    The covenant of the countries on fates and eras.

  7. ولم تدع لهمُ ما ساء من شُبَهٍ

    ولم تدع لهمُ ما ضرَّ من ريب

    And you did not leave for them what was wrong with suspicion,

    Nor did you leave for them what was harmful from doubt.

  8. وما تجاوز في الوادي نصيبُهُمُ

    من الوداد نصيب الترك والعرب

    And what exceeded its share in the valley

    Of affection is the share of the Turks and Arabs.

  9. والناس عندك أشباه إذا ائتلفتْ

    أهواؤهم في حماك الطيب الرحب

    And people with you are halves when their whims unite

    In your pleasant, vast protection.

  10. وإن يكن فيه تمهيد لمكتسب

    فإنه غير تمهيد لمغتصب

    And if there is in it preparation for an acquisition

    Then it is not preparation for a usurper.

  11. فيه المطار لجوَّابٍ ومتَّجرٍ

    لا للمدجج يرمي الأرض باللهب

    In it there is space for one who answers and trades

    Not for the armed who throws the land with flames.

  12. مرافق الناس بين الناس جامعةٌ

    قبل العلائق من قربى ومن نسب

    The accompaniment of people among people is a group

    Before kinship and lineage.

  13. يا صاحب الطيبات المستحق بها

    كل الرياسات والألقاب والرتب

    O owner of the good things, deserving

    Of all supremacy, titles and positions,

  14. وواهب الراحة الكبرى لأمته

    وإن تحمَّل كل الهم والتعب

    And granter of great comfort to your nation

    Even if you carried all the worry and fatigue,

  15. وجامع الشعب في حزب أقام به

    على السلام دليل الدائب الدرب

    And uniter of the people in a party you established

    On peace, the guide of the busy road,

  16. وموفد الحر يدعو كل مملكة

    بما تخيَّر من عقبى ومنقلب

    And sender of the free calling each kingdom

    With what you chose of consequences and changes

  17. مكرماً أينما كانت سفارته

    وأي تكرمة ترضيك لم تجب

    Honored wherever his embassy was

    And whatever honor that satisfies you did not respond

  18. ليطمئن إليه كلُّ معتركٍ

    ويستقر عليه كلُّ مضطرب

    So that every battlefield may be reassured

    And every troubled may settle on it.

  19. وليس غير الذي ترضى بمنتظرٍ

    وليس غير الذي ترجو بمرتقب

    And there is none other than the one you are satisfied with waiting

    And there is none other than the one you hope for expected

  20. أرى أعادي ما أحسنته انصرفوا

    إلى الولائم والألحان والطرب

    I see the enemies, however good I was to them, they left

    To banquets, melodies and joy.

  21. إن الألى أخطأوا في الجد موقفهم

    أحق بالعيش في لهو وفي لعب

    If the enemies have missed their stance in seriousness

    It is more deserving to live in vanity and play.

  22. لعلهم بعد ما كذبتهم يئسوا

    من أن يجيئوك يوماً بالدم الكذب

    Perhaps after I denied them, they despaired

    That they will come to you one day with false blood.

  23. شكَوا قوانينَك المثلى وما ذكروا

    شكواك من شغب يدوي ومن صخب

    They complained of your ideal laws and did not mention

    Complaints about the clamor that rumbles and thunders

  24. كم أكرهوك وتأبى أن تعاملهم

    إلا معاملة الإخوان والصحب

    How much they hated you and you refused to deal with them

    Except with the treatment of brothers and friends

  25. إذا قدرت على الأخلاق تصلحها

    فقد قدرت على الأهوال والنوب

    When you can correct morals, you have

    Been able to withstand horrors and afflictions
