الآن صح العهد والميثاقُ

لك وارتضاك الخلق والخلاقُ

Now the covenant and pact are fulfilled

For you, and creation and the Creator have chosen you

عرض السفير كتابه فأجابه

مما ألفت الحزم والإشفاق

The ambassador presented his letter and you answered him

With composure and compassion

رحبت محتفلاً به ورعيته

كرماً وأنت الشائق المشتاق

You welcomed him and his nation

With generosity while you are the passionate eager one

فصل الخطاب وإنه لَخِتامُ ما

وصل الدهاة إليه والحذاق

The discourse has concluded and it is the seal of what

The experts and professionals have reached

لم تمضه عن مصر إلا ناقداً

فيه لك التقييد والإطلاق

You would not let it leave Egypt except reviewing it

In it, you have the binding and releasing

كان الوثاق لها فعاد لخصمها

وغريمها الجبار وهو وثاق

It was binding on her so it returned to her opponent

And enemy, the tyrant, while it is binding

وأخذت من ثمر السلام وظله

ما شاءت الآمال والأخلاق

And she took from the fruits of peace and its shade

What hopes and morals desired

سجلت فيه لقومك استقلالهم

فاعتز إيلافٌ وجلَّ وفاق

It registered her people their independence

So there was honored harmony and revered agreement

وقضيت حقَّهمُ عليك وما انتهى

لهمُ تقاضٍ بعدُ واستحقاق

And you fulfilled their right upon you, and no more

Claims and entitlements for them after that

وتفاءل الشرق الموفَّق واقتدى

بك واطمأنَّ إلى الحجاز عراق

And the blessed East became hopeful and emulated

You, and Iraq was reassured by Hejaz

صلحت أمورك في أناتك مثلما

صلحت وأنت المسرع السبّاق

You settled your affairs in your softness just as

You settle while you are the swift pioneer

واجتزت غايات الظنون فساغ لي

فيك الغلوُّ وجاز لي الإغراق

And you attained the goals of ambitions so for me

Exaggeration in you is allowed and overflowing is justified

هل يسلم الإنسان من حكامه

من بعد ما قادوه أمس وساقوا

Can man be safe from his rulers

After they led him yesterday and marched?

ويقي حضارته صواعقه فلا

يجتاحها الإغراق والإحراق

And protect his civilization from their threats so

No flooding or burning overtakes it?

وتحرِّم الحربَ الشعوبُ جميعها

إن قام خلفٌ بينهم وشقاق

And all people prohibit war

If understanding arises between them, not conflict?

وضمان ذي الحق المقدس بينهم

رأيُ المحكَّمِ لا الدم المهراق

And the guarantee of the sacred right between them

Is the arbitrator's view, not spilled blood?

وشرائع الإنسان وهي كثيرة

ما سنت العادات والأذواق

And human laws, which are many

Habits and tastes instituted?

والحكم ما ملك القلوب سماحه

لا ما عنت لمراسه الأعناق

And rule what its kindness possessed hearts

Not what forced necks to its milestones?

من لي بيوم في السماء وموضع

والأرض قدسٌ والأنام رفاق

Who can grant me a day in the sky and a place

While the earth is holy and people are companions?

ومضارب الجند الرهيب يعيدها

وهي الرياض الخضر والأسواق

And the terrifying soldiers' camps become

Gardens and markets again?

بطل الحمى وأمينه من بعد ما

هزَّ الحمى الإرعاد والإبراق

The protector of sanctuary and its trustee after

Thunder and lightning shook sanctuary?

سكن الزمان إلى رضاك ولم يزل

صخب المكابر فيك وهو نفاق

Time settled to your satisfaction and did not cease

The clamor of hypocrisy in you?

ولو اكتفت صحف العناد بمنذر

ما كان إلغاء ولا إغلاق

And if the tablets of obstinacy sufficed with a warner

There would be no abolishing or closing

ومن الضرورة أن تحل بكاتب

تلك الشكائم بعد والأطواق

And it is necessary the writer of

Those insults suffers chains after

إن زرت إقليمي ففيه بقدر ما

أحسنت تقبيلٌ غداً وعناق

If I visit my region, in it according to

Your benevolence, kissing tomorrow and embracing

لبيت دعوته وخير رجائه

إشرافك الميمون والأشواق

For the house you invited and the best of hopes

Is your auspicious care and passions

تهدي سلامك عاطراً أجواؤه

وتردد الذكرى لك الآفاق

Your fragrant peace sends its greetings to its air

And recollection of you echoes the horizons

أيعدُّ ما أوليته وأقل ما

تسدي إليه البرء والأرزاق

Does it count what I was granted and little of what

Innocence and sustenance give to it?
