1. أكبرت خطبك والخطوب عظامُ

    والأرض سيلٌ والسماء ضرامُ

    Your great speeches and engagements are bones,

    And the land is a flood, and the sky is rainclouds.

  2. فيك الليالي حاربتنا بينما

    تطوى الحروب وتسكن الأقوام

    In you, the nights fought us, while

    Wars are folded, and nations fall silent.

  3. ونعتك مصر إلى الحجاز فكان ما

    دوى العراق به وضج الشام

    And Egypt called you to the Hejaz, so what

    Echoed in Iraq because of you and Damascus roared.

  4. عوجلت في غالي شبابك فاختفى

    نجمٌ وأغمد في التراب حسام

    You hurried in your precious youth, so a

    Star disappeared and a sword was sheathed in the dust.

  5. وعرفت معنى الموت وهو أشقُّ ما

    شقيت به الألباب والأفهام

    And you knew the meaning of death, which is the most

    Painful thing that afflicted intellects and minds.

  6. ما كان أزكى العامَ وهو ممهّد

    للصلح لولا أن طواك العام

    It would not have been the best year as it was paved

    For peace, had it not been for your death this year.

  7. قد كنت أولى بالمظاهر حية

    لا بالمآتم في البلاد تقام

    You would have been more deserving of alive glories

    Not the sorrows erected in the countries.

  8. وأحق بالعمر الطويل تحوطه

    بعد المكاره راحة وسلام

    And more deserving of a long life protected

    By tranquility and peace after adversity.

  9. لك من فضائلك المجيدة رتبة

    ومن المكارم والعفاف وسام

    You have from your glorious virtues a rank

    And from generosity, chastity, a medal.

  10. ولئن سكنت الخدر وهو مقدس

    فكما تضم الزهرة الأكمام

    And if you settled the cells, which are sacred,

    As flowers wrap their buds.

  11. ولقد وقفت وللحجاب قضية

    شغلت بها الأفواه والأقلام

    And you had stood, and for the veil an issue,

    Which busied mouths and pens.

  12. من مفرطين أبيتِ أن يستغرقوا

    ومُفرِّطين أبيتِ أن يتعاموا

    From the excessive, you refused that they overwhelm,

    And from the deficient, you refused that they fall short.

  13. فغدوت باحثة ورحت رشيدة

    والنقض في ناديك والإبرام

    So you became an inquirer and went rightly guided,

    And refuting in your club and concluding.

  14. وظهرتِ بالرأي الذي بهر النهى

    وأمده التجريب والإلهام

    And you appeared with the opinion that dazzled prohibition

    And revelation and inspiration supported it.

  15. في كل ناد من يراعك سامر

    ولكل بيت من هداك إمام

    In every club is one who holds you in esteem,

    And for every house you guided, an imam.

  16. ملكاً نزلت فسايرتك ملائكٌ

    ممن ألفت من القصور كرام

    You came down like a queen, so angels accompanied you

    From those you befriended from the palaces.

  17. فرعيت أخلاقاً وصنت عقائداً

    كادت بها تتعثر الأوهام

    You held morals and protected beliefs

    That perceptions almost stumbled with.

  18. وحملت في عبء البلاد وأهلها

    ما لا يطيق الفاتح المقدام

    And you carried the burden of the country and its people

    What the daring conqueror cannot bear.

  19. وشرفت بالنفس الكريمة قبل ما

    شرفت بك الأخوال والأعمام

    And you were honored by the generous soul before

    The uncles and paternal uncles honored you.

  20. أغناك عن نسل وعن ذرية

    ما خلدت من ذكرك الأيام

    What you immortalized of your mention made you

    Needless of descendants and offspring.

  21. تتناقل الأجيال فضلك في الحمى

    ما دام فيه النيل والأهرام

    Generations hand down your virtues in protection

    As long as the Nile and pyramids remain in it.

  22. راعتك آلامُ الممالك فانتهت

    تلك الشجون إليك والآلام

    The sorrows of kingdoms ended up to you,

    Those passions and pains.

  23. فقضيت رفقاً بالبلاد ورحمة

    والرفق منه أسىً ومنه سقام

    So you judged gently with the country and had mercy,

    And gentleness is sometimes pain and sometimes sickness.

  24. تبكي العقائل قدوة فُطِرت كما

    تختار مصر ويؤثر الإسلام

    The dears cry an ideal nature created

    As Egypt chooses and Islam prefers.

  25. يذكرن فضلك ما جرى قلم وما

    قامت صلاة برَّةٌ وصيام

    They mention your grace what the pen flowed

    And what prayers and fasts stood up.

  26. يا بنت شاعرنا وقاضينا الذي

    عزت به الأشعار والأحكام

    O daughter of our poet and our judge whose

    Poetry and judgments glory.

  27. وقرينة العربي وهو أبر ما

    ترعى عهود عنده وذمام

    And companion of the Arabic who is the most

    Pacts are guarded with him and reins are pulled.

  28. خفقت لك اليوم القلوب توجعاً

    وجوىً وكم خفقت لك الأعلام

    Hearts throbbed for you today painfully

    And mournfully, and how many flags throbbed for you.

  29. عزيت فيك الدين والدنيا معاً

    ونظمت فيك الدر وهو كلام

    Religion and life both lost you

    And prose and poetry composed about you.
