1. نعم الضمان جلوسك الميمونُ

    للشرق وهو الآمن المأمونُ

    Auspicious is your presence, august and benign,

    For the East, secure and protected.

  2. في مثل هذا اليوم قامت حجة

    واهتز برهان لمصر مبين

    On this day evidence arose

    And proof for Egypt shone clear.

  3. قد كان ميعاد المنى فوفى به

    قدرٌ يجلُّ وعوده ويصون

    The tryst of wishes was met faithfully,

    Fate exalted its vows and preserved them.

  4. وأتاح للبلد الأمين متوجاً

    حسنت به الدنيا وفاز الدين

    And granted the trusted land a crowned ruler,

    The worldapproved and faith triumphed.

  5. ذكرى جلوسك للرعية بهجة

    ولتاج مصر وعرشها تمكين

    The memory of your accession is joy

    For your subjects, and strength for Egypt's crown and throne.

  6. هذي الرسائل والوفود شواهد

    أن الولاء عقيدة ويقين

    These messages and delegations are proof

    That loyalty is creed and certainty.

  7. فحديثه ليقينه متتبِّعٌ

    وطريفه بتليده مقرون

    So the sincere in their certainty pursue its discourse,

    And its grace is coupled with tradition.

  8. في عيدك ابتهل العباد ضراعة

    يتلمسون السلم وهو ثمين

    On your feast day the worshippers implored fervently,

    Seeking peace, precious as it is.

  9. أمنت بلايا الحرب مصر وإنها

    أدنى إليها واصطلتها الصين

    Egypt was spared the afflictions of war, and indeed

    China drew near and made peace with her.

  10. كان الذي رضيت به من دهرها

    واللّه مرضيها بما سيكون

    What you approved of her days was enough,

    And God approved what will yet come.

  11. فضل الذي فيه استراح مجاهد

    ونجا طريد واطمأن رهين

    The surplus through which the warrior found rest,

    The outcast escaped, and the captive grew calm,

  12. وسلا به فيما تجشم عالم

    جدت به محن وطال أنين

    And through which the world, suffering,

    Found relief from enduring tribulations.

  13. الناس تفنى والحديد غداً ولا

    تفنى عوادي الناس وهي فنون

    Men pass away, and iron tomorrow, yet not

    The customs of men pass away, manifold as they are.

  14. يتقاتلون على حطيم زائل

    ولربما قتل الخدين خدين

    They war over transient rubble,

    And the lover, alas, may kill the beloved.

  15. وارحمتاه على شباب ممالك

    غاضت ميادينٌ بهم وسنين

    Have mercy on the youth of kingdoms

    Whose fields were despoiled, and whose years.

  16. كانوا أماني أهلِهم وديارهم

    فدهتمُ قبل المنون منون

    They were their families and homes’ wish

    Yet loss anticipated loss before death.

  17. حتام تحوي في القبور كواكب

    واليوم ترتشف السموم غصون

    Tombs contain stars fallen to earth,

    And today branches imbibe poison.

  18. وإلام يحرق عالَمٌ متألق

    وإلام يغرق ماخر مشحون

    Why should a shining world burn?

    Why should a laden ship sink?

  19. وإلام يطمع هادم في موحش

    ترتاع منه بصائر وعيون

    What does a destroyer hope for in a desolation

    At which sights and eyes shudder?

  20. غاض الدم المسفوك حتى كاد من

    جزع يسابقه الدم المحقون

    Spilled blood raged until it almost

    Outpaced the requited blood.

  21. وأشد من نار الوغى وحديدها

    شجو على شهدائها وشجون

    More agonizing than the flames of turmoil and their steel

    Is grieving for its martyrs and dirges.

  22. لو يستطيع العالم المسكون ما

    حمل الأنام العالم المسكون

    If the inhabited world could carry

    The sorrow that has burdened the inhabited world!

  23. مستغنياً بالصخر لا يهتاجه

    للسيئات وساوسٌ وظنون

    Self-sufficient, unshaken by evil suggestions, doubts and fears,

    Ignorance did not do what knowledge did.

  24. لم يجن جهلٌ ما جنى العلم الذي

    جاز المدى فارتد وهو جنون

    Knowledge that exceeded bounds, recoiled, insane.

    A crime that its people committed upon the innocent

  25. ذنب جناه على البسيطة أهلها

    لتنوء أجيال به وقرون

    So that generations and centuries strain under its weight.

    They were, and from its fires and iron they remain

  26. أمسوا ومما أحدثوا من نارها

    حوت ومن فولاذها شاهين

    Lashed and whetted and sharp-honed.

    If truth had sufficed religions and prohibitions

  27. وغدا مكان ثمارها المقذوف وال

    مشبوب والمشحوذ والمسنون

    It would not have needed brigades and fortresses.

    Woe to a people assaulted with a sword

  28. لو أغنت الحق الشرائع والنهى

    ما أعوزته كتائب وحصون

    As they were never assaulted by law.

    More fitting for he who ate the living, and drank

  29. يا ويل قوم نال منهم صارم

    ما لم ينله منهم القانون

    The infernal blood and pus,

    Than the strong in might, is one who

  30. أولى بمن أكل الحشا حياً ومن

    شرب الدم الزقّوم والغسلين

    Strengthens the oppressed and dispossessed.

    The weak hopes for fair changes from heels

  31. من للقويّ البأس أليق غير من

    يقوى به المظلوم والمغبون

    While the disgraced fears even changes that empower.

    Victory is too weak to please a tyrant

  32. يرجو الضعيف الحول من عقباه ما

    يخشى المذلُّ بحوله المفتون

    While around him captives moan and wail.

    Deposing an unjust ruler is more deserving

  33. الفتح أعجز أن يسر مملَّكاً

    يبكي سليبٌ حوله وطعين

    Than rule that disgraces its victories.

    The great army and its victories are more deserving

  34. والعزل بالملك الظلوم أحق من

    حكم يعيب فتوحه ويشين

    Of securing and restraining it.

    I warned the unjust and each people concealed

  35. وأحق بالجيش العظيم ونصره

    من جيشه التأمين والتمدين

    Their intimate thoughts from me.

    And now I dream of offering with my right hand

  36. أنذرت بالحرب العوان وعنَّ لي

    من كل شعب سره المكنون

    From behind the veil, a hand of peace.

    The two sides will come closer and be equal

  37. والآن أحلم باليمين تمدها

    للصلح من خلف الستار يمين

    In every claim, creditor and debtor.

    Perhaps the helper against crimes and harm

  38. يدنو الفريق من الفريق ويستوي

    في كل دعوى دائن ومدين

    Will help goodness in the evening.

    Not a truce in which the tyrant renews

  39. وعسى المعين على الجرائم والأذى

    يمسي على الإحسان وهو معين

    His tyranny, but a lasting peace,

    A peace that makes kindred of earth’s people, not

  40. صلح إلى طول المدى لا هدنة

    فيها يجدد بطشه الموهون

    A humiliating peace that degrades the weak.

    All desire peace, were it not for their fear

  41. صلح يوفق بين أهل الأرض لا

    صلح مذل للضعيف مهين

    That peace is a ploy and deceit.

    From the new land its pioneer called me,

  42. كلٌّ يودُّ السلم لولا خوفه

    أن السلام مكيدة وكمين

    And its president and wise Lincoln.

    He hopes, with kindness as Jesus obtained,

  43. نادى من الأرض الجديدة فردها

    ورئيسها وحكيمها ولسون

    And might as Moses, and riches as Korah,

    To remove the shackles from every crowned head.

  44. يرجو الذي بالرفق عيسى ناله

    بالبأس موسى بالغنى قارون

    He seeks no rancor in this new era of brotherhood,

    Every kingdom arose and after rising,

  45. يضع القيود لكل ذي تاج فلا

    يبغي على عهد الإخاء خؤون

    Came reformation and renewal.

    This existence returned a pleasant existence,

  46. قامت قيامة كل مملكة ومن

    بعد القيامة يرجع التكوين

    With reform and improvement in its nature.

    They shepherd and have mercy on one another,

  47. ويعود هذا الخلق خلقاً طيباً

    من طبعه التقويم والتحسين

    No lingering vengeance or malice left buried.

    For you, my heart, the kingdom poses

  48. يرعى ويرحم بعضهم بعضاً فلا

    ثأر ولا غل هناك دفين

    Great issues, as you wish for it.

    In each of your days there is a season

  49. للملك عندك يا فؤاد مسائل

    كبرى كما ترجو له وشئون

    To gladden loyalists and adorn them.

    When you wish, Egypt is your sweetheart,

  50. في كل يوم من زمانك موسم

    للمخلصين يسرهم ويزين

    When you wish, Egypt is your burrow.

    The year turned radiant and smiling,

  51. وإذا أردت فإن مصر خميلة

    وإذا أردت فإن مصر عرين

    With the hawk and two eaglets.

    The countries rejoiced at the good tidings,

  52. العام وضَّاح المحيا مقبل

    والآس بين يديه والنسرين

    Yearning for their hopes and for intimacy.

    He sends greetings of peace to the people,

  53. طربت ببشراه البلاد وهزها

    شوق إلى آمالها وحنين

    Auspicious are his days, and all has its time.
