تقدم بقانونك العادلِ

وأقبل بدستورك الكاملِ

Present your just law,

And come with your complete constitution.

وهات من الرشد العاقل ال

سبيل إلى الراشد العاقل

And bring from the wise and rational

A way to the well-guided and rational.

وقرِّب من الحق ما لم يدع

مكاناً من الخلق الباطل

And bring closer to the truth what did not

Leave a place for the invalid creation.

ظفرت بتعديل ما في الزمان

وفيك له قوة الناقل

You have succeeded in reforming what is in time,

And in you, it has the power of the conveyor.

وجئت الرجال بميزانهم

تبرِّئه من هوى الهازل

And you came with the men in their balance,

Acquitting who is infatuated by vanity.

وصنت النيابة من تاجر

يساوم فيها ومن خامل

And you protected parliament from a merchant

Who bargains in it and from the lazy one.

ووسعت للرغبات الخيا

ر في الموعد الجامع الفاصل

And you have given the sincere wishes

A vast appointment, the comprehensive separator.

وأنت المدبّر للعاجل ال

عتاد الكريم وللآجل

And you are the manager of the urgent -

The generous is not accustomed, and of the postponed.

وأنت الكفيل بحسن المصي

ر للمبدأ الثابت الفاضل

And you are responsible for the good fate

Of the solid, virtuous principle.

أمانة قومك أديتها

وحق المنيل على النائل

The trust of your people you have performed,

And the right of the attainable upon the attainer.

فما للذي كان عوناً لما

تشاء استحال إلى عاذل

So why has he who was a supporter

Of what you desire changed into a blamer?

وعاب شؤونك وهو العليم

بعذرك في الواقع الحاصل

And he criticized your affairs, and he is knowledgeable

Of your excuse in the present situation.

يصد سفينك فوق العبا

ب والعابثون على الساحل

He obstructs your ship above the waves,

And the troublemakers on the coast.

ويشمت بالصلح خصم الزما

ن فيه وفي الصاحب الواصل

And he gloats over the reconciliation of the opponent

Of time in it and the affiliated friend.

وما برحت شيعة الغاضبي

ن حرباً على الرجل العامل

The angry faction did not cease to wage

War on the working man.

وإنك في شاغل من أمو

ر مصر وهم منك في شاغل

While you are busy with Egypt's affairs,

And they are busy with you.

وأنت لأدرانهم غاسل

وهم يحقدون على الغاسل

And you are washing them of their filth,

While they resent the washer.

تلطفت يوماً بهم فاعتدوا

على الجار والأهل والنازل

One day you were gentle with them, so they

Transgressed upon the neighbor, family and lodger.

وهل أذعنوا لك بعد الذي

تلقّوه من بأسك الهائل

After what they received of your terrible might,

Did they ever submit to you?

وإن انتزاعك سلطانهم

كنزع السلاح من القاتل

Indeed, your seizure of their power

Is like taking a weapon from a killer.

مجانين بالحكم يبغونه

وحسبهم الدهر من حائل

Insane with power they want it

And time has been a barrier for them.

وفي أي شرع سوى شرعهم

تكون الرياسة للجاهل

By what law other than theirs

Can leadership be for the ignorant?

وفي أي عهد سوى عهدهم

تكون الحكومة للغافل

And in what era other than theirs

Can rule be for the heedless?

وقد يئسوا من مثار النفوس

ومن عود نجمهم الآفل

They have despaired of the yield of souls

And the return of their fading star.

وطال سبيلهم والتوى

فعادوا إلى السند المائل

Their path has been long, and it twisted,

So they returned to the leaning pillar.

يبثون رسلهم في الدجى

ويلتمسون رضى الخاذل

They dispatch their messengers in the darkness,

And seek the satisfaction of the betrayer.

يماطلهم وهمُ واقفون

على بابه وقفة السائل

He stalls them while they stand

At his door, the stance of a beggar.

وليس يبالي بذلِّ المقي

مِ منهم ولا بأسى الراحل

He does not care about their loss,

Nor the sorrow of the traveler.

وشاهد منك المراس الشديد

فجاء بتسليمه الشامل

And he saw your stern correspondence,

So he came with his comprehensive surrender.

وصار غنياً بهذا الوداد

إليك عن العنت الزائل

And he became, with this affection for you,

Rich without the fleeting trouble.

ملكت فدى الشعب في حزبه

وعقباه في يومك الحافل

You have owned, so the people in their party redeemed,

And their outcome on your eventful day.

ومكنته باتحاد الرفا

ق من حقه الراجع الآيل

And you enabled it, by the unity of allies,

From its returning, rightful due.

يقين المصرِّ على رأيه

ألفت ومقدرة الآمل

Certainty upon the perseverance of Egyptians you have accustomed,

And the power of hope.
