اسلك الأرض ومهِّدها اتساعا
واملأ الملك نعيماً ومتاعا
Pave the land and make it spacious,
And fill the kingdom with bliss and delight,
واقض بين الناس يأخذ حقه
كل إنسان حياة وانتفاعا
And judge between people, let each person
Get their right, life and benefit.
عرفت كل طلوب جده
سنة العدل الذي عم وشاعا
You knew every urgent request,
The justice you spread and made common.
قسَّم الماء فروعاً ومضى
يقسم الخصب غياضاً وبقاعا
You divided the water into streams and left,
To divide fertility into meadows and lands.
حاجة الخلق إلى مزرعة
قبل ما حل اكتشافاً واختراعا
People need a farm
Before discovery and invention come about.
لو خلا البر من المحراث لم
ترفع الريح على البحر شراعا
If the land was devoid of the plough, the wind
Would not have raised the sail on the sea.
مثل الزارع يحتل القرى
مثل الجندي يحتل القلاعا
Like a farmer who occupies villages,
Like a soldier who occupies fortresses.
سخرته قوة الأمس وكم
أطعم الخلق وكم هان وجاعا
Yesterday's power employed him, and how much
He fed people, and how much he eased pains.
وتلقى اليوم ما عوضه
من أياديك اصطفاء واصطناعا
And today he receives compensation
From your hands, care and crafting.
سهل الملك عليه واستوى
ما اقتنى جوداً وما جاء ابتياعا
Kingship came easy to him and leveled out
What he gained in generosity and what came in trade.
رحلة الخير وما أيمنها
لك ركباً ولقاء واجتماعا
The journey of good - how propitious it was
For you a mount, meeting and gathering.
نعمت نفسك فيها بالذي
بلغته النفس علماً واطلاعا
Your soul thrived in it through what
The soul reached in knowledge and learning.
وأتت أنباء من أوفدته
بالذي شئت مريحات سراعا
And news came from those you sent
With what you wished, quick messengers.
أخذ العدة في حملته
منك والجند لساناً ويراعا
They took supplies in their campaign
From you, and the army a tongue and a shepherd.
جامعاً رأيك في حجته
وقديماً نفع الرأي الشجاعا
Gathering your opinion in their argument,
And wisdom of old aids the brave.
نزل الجبار من معقله
بعد ما اعتز إباء وامتناعا
The tyrant descended from his fortress
After he was too proud and stubborn.
يطلب العهد الذي يعوزه
ويوفيه اصطحاباً واتباعا
Seeking the pact he lacks
And fulfilling it with company and following.
ليس من هاج سباعاً فاعتدت
مثل من روض واقتاد السباعا
Not like one who provoked beasts and so is used to them,
Unlike one who tamed and herded beasts.
والذي ينقل طوداً عالياً
ليس كالناقل للناس طباعا
And one who carries a towering height
Is not like one who carries people's natures.
رجل الساعة حلها سبلاً
ممكنات ومنالاً مستطاعا
The man of the hour found it ways
Of possibilities and attainable things.
ودع الرهط الذي أمهلته
فتحداك اغتراراً وانخداعا
Leave the band you neglected
And so they challenged you in delusion and deceit.
قُضي الأمر كما شئت فهل
يملك الحاسد في العقبى نزاعا
The order is done as you wished, so does
The envious have any dispute about fate?
