With a figure like the crescent moon in the sky
Yet she is dressed in fine silk
An Iraqi whose body has known no emaciation
And who feels not the pangs of hunger
Emerald green, beautiful to behold
Camphor white, smooth to the touch
On her head, a fresh flower
Like a star in the dark night when it twinkles
Grown in the fragrant soil
The most precious planting ground
Sisters with slender waists
When they reveal their verdant robes
Veiled from the sun's rays
With a wrap light as a summer breeze
She arches as she is born
Never have I seen one so arched when young
Tongues grow weary with praise of her
And fall silent criticizing her
