سأَبعدُ عنكمُ وأَروضُ نفسي

وأنظر كيف صَبري واعتزامي

I will distance myself from you all and tame my soul

And see how patient and determined I am

فإمَّا أن يُفارقني هواكم

وإما أن يُواصلَني حِمامي

Either your love will leave me

Or my pigeons will keep me company

ولي إلفانِ من شَوقٍ ودَمعِ

يُعينان السَّهَادَ على مَنامِي

I have two friends of longing and tears

Who help sleep overcome my wakefulness

أقولُ إذا الجنوبُ جَرَت بليلٍ

على حيِّ وساكنها سلامي

I say, when the southern winds blow at night

Over the alive and the dead, my greetings

وقد كان الخيالُ يُعين عيناً

مؤرَّقة على دَمعٍ سِجَامِ

Imagination used to help an eye

Restless with tears of sorrow

ولو عادَ المنامُ أعاد وَصلي

ولكن لا سبيلَ إلى المنَام

And if sleep returned, it would reunite me

But there is no way to sleep

قرابك في فؤاد مستَهامٌ

وأجفانٍ مُضرَّجة دَوامي

Your nearness is in a passionate heart

And eyelids stained perpetually

ومشتاق إليك يَرَى التَّسَليَّ

وحُسنَ الصَّبرِ عنك من الآثام

And longing for you sees consolation

And patience from you is better than sins
