I refuse to be ungrateful for his bounty

Or for the benefactor to be ungenerous

The noble soul does not consider kindness a favor

For which to beg pardon, and yet he was silent

I will praise even if words fall short

For the tongue of the heart is beyond language

If a grateful voice kept extending thanks

I'd hear it amidst the ruins and pilgrims of Mecca

When told "This is a gain for you" turning away

I refused, saying honor is the greatest gain
