مُكَحَّلٌ بِالدَّعَجِ

مُنَقَّبٌ بِالغَنَجِ

Eyelined with kohl

Veiled with coquetry

مُعَصْفَرُ التُّفّاحِ في

خَدِ مَليحِ الضَّرَجِ

Apple-cheeked

In a pretty, smooth cheek

جَمَّشَهُ الشَّعْرُ وما

ذاكَ لِطولِ الحُجَجِ

His hair is tousled not

From long separation

وإِنَّما عَارِضُهُ

شَنَّفَهُ بالسَّبَجِ

But his cheek is marked

By a slap and a blow
