1. O Living One before all, alive in Your very Essence,

    with no need within You for vitality;

  2. O Living One, whose life is nothing other than Himself,

    lest the Essence be made dependent on an abstract attribute;

  3. O Living One, who gives every living being its life

    figuratively, while He Himself is truly Living;

  4. O Living One, whose life has no beginning,

    nor any end that can overtake eternity;

  5. O Living One, before existence and its opposite—

    both are relations of creating or refraining, born of Will;

  6. O Living One, reviver of the soul after its passing,

    and raiser of the very same first creation;

  7. O Living One, who revives the earth after its death,

    with Nature having no effect upon His creation;

  8. My life has slipped away, deluded by outward show,

    amid one calamity followed by a thousand more.

  9. My life has slipped away while I was ignorant, feigning ignorance;

    I plunge on, amusing myself in pursuit of my desires.

  10. Pour out for me from the bounty of Your life-giving Name a reviving grace

    that hastens my rising from the grave of misery,

  11. pouring down the rain of mysteries, light, and guidance,

    and breathing the spirit of knowledge into my human frame.
