1. O You who raise whomever You will by Your right guidance,

    by nearness, felicity, and purity;

  2. Your raising of those You single out was preceded by an act of will,

    and the command of that will must be carried out.

  3. O You who raise through knowledge those devoted to You

    to lofty degrees in their allotted portions;

  4. O You who raise ranks through knowledge and eminence,

    when reverence for God is the foundation of the edifice;

  5. O You who raise through wealth whoever attains Your bounty,

    because of his gratitude—and gratitude is the greatest blessing;

  6. O You who raise by reason—and reason is a proof;

    without it, we would be numbered among the beasts.

  7. You raised one lofty in glory, ranks, and

    praise to the station of the messengers and angelhood.

  8. O You who raise ranks along the ascents of

    witnessing, and who give them cups of love to drink;

  9. by Your loftiness, raise me with the ascent of one who affirms Your oneness,

    a lover grown pure in love, humbly devoted.

  10. By Your loftiness, raise me to a station of guidance,

    lofty and exalted, and strengthen me with the spirit of truth.

  11. By Your loftiness, raise my soul’s aspiration above caprice,

    and lead me toward what pleases You, on the path’s straight course.
