1. Yet he gives by the measure of his reason—

the rightful claims of God’s people, drawing forth whole bags.

  2. He grants extra bounty wherever such giving is praiseworthy and wise,

gifts no less abundant than the rain poured down by clouds.

  3. His pure soul turns away from extravagance,

and thus he safeguards it while bestowing worthy gifts.

  4. Were his hand to rise to grant all that the soul desires,

his bounty would crowd the very stations of the stars.

  5. Heeding the wisdom between restraint and openhandedness,

his way in generosity is the finest of ways.
