1. O You who are God, the All-Knowing by His very essence—

Your knowledge, O God, encompasses every reality.

  2. You knew, my God, the essence of every possible thing,

just as You willed it into being from nonexistence.

  3. Whatever knowledge is acquired arises for some cause,

    renewed—unlike knowledge that is pre-eternal.

  4. For there is nothing still or moving in creation

that was not, in pre-eternity, there by Your choosing.

  5. What need have I to present my state, when that state is innate,

and You, my God, know my inborn nature?

  6. Yes—presenting my state is a quest setting out from where I rest

toward You, and a duty among the duties of servitude.

  7. Amid affliction, I called out toward prayer’s broad expanse,

for in the anguish of my straits You drove me to my spacious refuge.

  8. Not an atom, Lord, is hidden from You of

my affliction, my pleading, my encampment, or my journeying in quest.

  9. You observe my suffering, O All-Knowing, with mercy

and tenderness, though I had not yet emerged from nonexistence.

  10. You know what I undertake and what I leave undone,

what lay within my knowledge and what escaped my awareness.

  11. My God, You have comprehended the essence of all my realms;

so be with me in whatever submission of mine pleases You.
