1. I have put my trust in the King’s sovereignty and might,

and in His pillars of sublime majesty.

  2. I have put my trust in the King’s sovereignty against whatever descends

of inevitable fate, fierce and hard to rein.

  3. I have put my trust in the King’s sovereignty; and whoever trusts

in His sovereignty dwells in a fortress of might and refuge.

  4. Whoever trusts in God amid all that befalls him

feels no distress over his affairs, nor fear of ruin.

  5. My soul’s delusion took possession of it, O King,

so it fled toward its desires and turned away.

  6. And Satan made it compliant in pursuing what it sought.

Those two mastered my reason and drove my nature.

  7. Through Your deed, my Lord, came what I suffered from those two,

and what they caused, O King, toward my misery.

  8. And as for the soul—how many a sacred bound has it pounced

upon, and how many a plight after plight!

  9. How many betrayals it has perpetrated, and how many outrages

it has committed—and disobedience in which it persisted!

  10. By Your sovereignty, my Lord, purify this soul,

and sanctify its endeavors with light and wisdom.

  11. My God, within the King’s might and bounty lies

the attainment of my aims and the removal of my harm.
