1. O Faith-Giver, grant me safety—and Your impregnable—

—protection; for amid imperfection there is no safety for my fear.

  2. Your safeguard leaves the creature with no fear

of evil in this world or in the hereafter.

  3. Your safeguard is a fortress: whenever an assault surges, it is not weighed down by

the onslaught of calamities or the inrush of affliction.

  4. Your safeguard against fear, O Faith-Giver, is my shield;

what have I then to do with my devil and my wayward soul?

  5. Your safeguard is mine, inasmuch as You remember me,

while my remembrance of You, O God, follows from Yours.

  6. Your safeguard for me, on the side of fear, is like hope—

my security when You inspire it in me and preserve me.

  7. Your safeguard is mine in Your creating my guidance

toward the causes of that wherein lie my salvation and my ruin.

  8. Your safeguard against fear of Your subtle design is the stronghold

of my certainty, while trust in You is my protection.

  9. I hastened toward faith, and it is my means of approach—

O You through whom, from whom, and unto whom is my means!

  10. Through You, O God, I am safe from every fearful thing,

by my good expectation of You, not by the goodness of my conduct.

  11. My God, from You both safety and fear arise,

and every metaphor returns to the Reality.
