رعى الله ليلة أنس جلت
بهاء وحسناً كبدر التمام
A night of intimacy shone
With beauty and charm like the full moon
فكانت لنا غرة في الزمان
وكانت على صورة كالوسام
It was for us a wonderful time
And was in the form of an ornament
من الأدب الغض أجني بها
زهوراً سقاها نمير الغمام
From etiquette I plucked with it
Flowers watered by the drizzle of clouds
أطارح فيها كما أشتهي
كرام السراة سراة الكلام
I converse in it as I wish
The generosity of the elite, the eloquence of speech
فطوراً من اللؤلؤ الرطب أج
ني نثاراً وطوراً عقود النظام
Sometimes with moist pearls I gather
Scattered beads, sometimes organized necklaces
ندار علينا كؤوس الشراب
من الشاي لا من عقيق المدام
Cups of drink circled around us
Of tea, not of red wine
فمن أبيض كذؤاب اللجين
ومن أحمر كلهيب الضرام
Some white like porcelain mugs
Some red like the flames of fire
بنادي كريم نبيل الأصول
طويل الأيادي عليِّ المقام
With a generous, noble ancestor
Long handed, high in station
يباشر أصحابه بالربيع
من الخلق الرحب خلق الكرام
Who entertains his companions in spring
With vast, noble manners
تذكرت ما بيننا قد مضى
وليس لعيش سعيد دوام
I remembered what had passed between us
That joyous life does not last
فلا زال ناديكم ناعماً
من السعد في نضرة وابتسام
Still, your gatherings remained gentle
In prosperity, radiance and smiles
فيا ليلة الوصل دومي لنا
فأنت السلام عليك السلام
Oh night of connection, stay with us
You are peace, peace be upon you
