1. O You who abase the unbelievers with a foreordained abasement,

    by consigning them to wretchedness in preexistent eternity;

  2. that is a secret veiled in majesty,

    and in this matter there is no judgment but His justice.

  3. O You who abase through remoteness whomever You will to hold far,

    just as every elevation lies in Your drawing near;

  4. O You who abase through ignorance—and ignorance is a wellspring

    of every affliction, decline, and baseness;

  5. O You who abase through poverty the one whose poverty

    makes him sink in his faith into ignominy;

  6. O You who abase through humiliation the one whose abasement

    is before another than You, whether from love, coercion, or fear;

  7. O You who abase the arrogant tyrant by force, in vengeance,

    and abase the people of knowledge through covetousness;

  8. My God, I complain of one who persists; You are sufficient against him.

    Tyrannically he vaunts himself over my feeble strength.

  9. The world appeared to him like a meal before a hungry man,

    so it went down easily as food for him—O what an evil meal!

  10. O Abaser, abase him to the lowest of the low,

    and unleash torment upon him from every quarter;

  11. cast him down, abased, headfirst,

    into the depths of baneful destruction.
