1. Light is beheld only from its places of rising,

    And pearls are gathered only from their beds.

  2. When perfection takes hold of a root,

    Its branches become perfect, and its meanings course through it.

  3. If his soul is a sea, there is no wonder

    In gathering the hidden jewel from his mouth.

  4. A root took form from the light of perfection; thus

    The radiance of its beginning is the radiance of what follows.

  5. For the kings, the sons of Sultan, it is lineage enough

    That the sun be counted a pillar of his buildings.

  6. They left their descendants glory and exaltation

    That the wandering meteors cannot reach.

  7. Hamud aimed at their goals, and no noble deed escaped

    Being secured by his lofty deeds.

  8. I set my soul to praising him, standing it up and seating it;

    The matter is immense: I cannot count his praises.
