I became humbled in the lands when you captured me,
And I suffer the pains of passion, tossing and turning.
If only I had two hearts, I would live with one,
And leave a heart for your love to torment.
But I have only one heart that passion has taken over,
So neither life pleases me, nor is death closer.
Like a bird in a child's fist that he squeezes,
It tastes the flow of death while the child plays.
For the child has no mind that cares for her state,
Nor has the bird wings to fly away and leave.
I was called insane for the agony of passion,
And proverbs about me were struck in the district.
So O lovers' throng, die young,
Like Qays died, tortured by estrangement.
