جَنَيتُها وَالصُبحُ وَردِيُّ العَذَب
بَنادِقاً مَخروطَةً مِنَ الذَهَب
I plucked them while dawn was rose-pink at the fringes—
little globes turned out of gold.
قَد ضُمِّنَت أَمثالَها مِنَ الخَشَب
وَاِلتَفَّ مِنها خَشَبٌ عَلى غَرَب
They held within them counterparts made of wood.
And from them wooden pieces came together—strangely.
وَصارَ مِنهُ السُمُّ حَشواً لِلضَرَب
فَهيَ لَعَمري عَجَبٌ مِنَ العَجَب
And from it poison became ammunition for striking.
By my life, it is a wonder among wonders.
