لَيسَ حَدُّ الحُسامِ أَكفى وَأَغنى

لَيسَ حَدُّ الحُسامِ أَكفى وَأَغنى

مِن أَخٍ ذي كِفايَةٍ وَغِناءِ

مِن أَخٍ ذي كِفايَةٍ وَغِناءِ

The saber’s edge is no more effective or availing

than a capable and resourceful brother.

وَأَخو المَرءِ عِصمَةٌ في بَلاءِ

وَأَخو المَرءِ عِصمَةٌ في بَلاءِ

يَعتَريهِ وَزينَةٌ في الرَخاءِ

يَعتَريهِ وَزينَةٌ في الرَخاءِ

And a man’s brother is his mainstay in an affliction

that befalls him, and an adornment in prosperity.
