مِن شَقوَةِ المُردِ أَن تَبدو شَوارِبُهُم

مِن شَقوَةِ المُردِ أَن تَبدو شَوارِبُهُم

مُسوَدَّةً قَبلَ أَن تَبدو عَوارِضُهُم

مُسوَدَّةً قَبلَ أَن تَبدو عَوارِضُهُم

One misfortune of beardless youths is that their mustaches appear,

grown dark before the hair along their cheeks comes in.

يا وَيحَهُم مِن لِحىً جَدَّت مَنافِشُهُم

يا وَيحَهُم مِن لِحىً جَدَّت مَنافِشُهُم

فيهِنَّ أَو لَعِبَت فيها مَقارِضُهُم

فيهِنَّ أَو لَعِبَت فيها مَقارِضُهُم

Alas for them—for beards their teasing combs have labored

within, or in which their shears have played.
