لا تَأمَلَنَّ الخَيرَ في الزَمَنِ الَّذي

حَلَّ اللِئامُ بِهِ مَحَلَّ كِرامِ

Do not expect goodness in the time when

The base people have taken the place of the noble ones

وَمِنَ البَلِيَةِ أَن يَراني دونَهُ

مَن لَيسَ يَصلُحُ أَن يَكونَ غُلامي

And it is a misfortune that below me I see

One who is not fit to be my servant
