The whiteness of a page gleams beautifully,
like a sword’s broad blade in a lovely one’s hand;
like a cloud grown sheer at the edges of the sky,
and water spreading over a spacious plain.
It resembles a field of pure camphor,
strewn with fragments of slit-open musk—
like night within a dawn breaking open,
or a temple-lock against a radiant face.
And among its lines are unerringly placed dots,
like a beauty mark upon a lovely cheek.
