كَتَبتُ أَستَعجِلُ النَدامى
وَالنارُ تَستَعجِلُ القُدورا
I wrote, urging the boon companions to hurry,
while the fire hastens the cooking pots.
وَقَد أَتاني الغُلامُ يَسعى
بِأَرغُفٍ تُشبِهُ البُدورا
The servant boy has come to me at a run,
with loaves resembling full moons.
وَعِندَنا قَهوَةٌ شَمولٌ
لَو قُطِّعَت صُيِّرَت شُذورا
And we have a heady wine—
were it cut, it would turn into shards.
تَكونُ قَبلَ المِزاجِ ناراً
فَاِنقَلَبَت بِالمَزاجِ نورا
Before dilution, it is fire;
once diluted, it turns into light.
فَإِنهَض إِلى سُرعَةٍ إِلَينا
نَنثُر عَلى نَفسِكَ السُرورا
So rise and hasten to us,
that we may shower your soul with joy.
