1. لَيلٍ كَما نَفَضَ الغُرابُ جَناحَهُ

    مُتَبَقِّعُ الأَعلى بَهيمُ الأَسفَلِ

    Like a night when the raven shook out its wings

    Mottled above, savage below

  2. تَبدو الكَواكِبُ مِن فُتوقِ ظَلامِهِ

    لَمعَ الأَسِنَّةِ مِن فُتوقِ القَسطَلِ

    The stars gleam out of the crevices of its darkness

    The glittering of the Pleiades from the crevices of Orion

  3. وَتَرى الكَواكِبَ في المَجَرَّةِ شُرَّعاً

    مِثلَ الظِباءِ كَوارِعاً في جَدوَلِ

    And you see the stars in the Galaxy like sails

    Like gazelles taking shelter in a wadi
