جَلى الرَبيعُ عَلَينا
كَواعِباً أَبكارا
Spring unveiled before us
nubile maidens, untouched,
مُتَوَّجاتٍ عَقيقاً
مُسَوَّراتٍ نَهارا
crowned with carnelian,
braceleted with daylight.
تَرى لَهُنَّ مِنَ الوَر
دِ شَوذَراً وَخِمارا
You see them clothed in ro—
—ses, in mantles and veils.
أَهدى لَنا جَوهَراتٍ
تُحَيِّرُ الأَبصارا
It bestowed upon us jewels
that bewilder the eyes.
يا حُسنَ حُمرٍ وَصُفرٍ
تُريكَ جَمراً وَنارا
O beauty of reds and yellows
that show you embers and flame!
قَد راقَ ذاكَ اِحمِرارا
وَراعَ ذاكَ اِصفِرارا
That one delights in its redness,
and that one startles in its yellowness.
وَخِلتَ هَذا عَقيقاً
وَخِلتَ ذاكَ نِضارا
You would think this carnelian,
and that pure gold;
وَذاكَ شَهداً مُشارا
وَذاكَ راحاً عِقارا
that one harvested honey,
and that one aged wine.
لَو كانَ يَبقى سَليماً
نَظَمتُهُ تِقصارا
If it would remain unharmed,
I would string it into a short necklace.
