لَكَ بَرمَةٌ نَزَّهتَها
مِن أَن تُدَنَّسَ بِالدَسَم
You have a cooking pot you have kept pure
from being sullied by grease—
بَيضاءُ يُشرِقُ نورُها
كَالبَدرِ في غَسَقِ الظُلَم
white, its light gleaming
like the full moon in the gloom of darkness.
لَو كانَ عِرضُكَ مِثلَها
كُنتَ المُمَدَّحَ في الأُمَم
If your honor were like it,
you would be extolled among the nations;
أَو كانَ فِعلُكَ مِثلَ قَو
لِكَ كُنتَ تاريخَ الكَرَم
or if your deeds were like your—
words, you would be generosity’s very chronicle.
