قَلَّ خَيرُ اِبنِ قاسِمٍ
فَغِناهُ كَعُدمِهِ
Scant is the goodness of Ibn Qasim;
for his wealth is the same as having none.
كادَ مِن خَشيَةِ القِرى
يَختَبي في اُمِّهِ
For fear of offering a guest hospitality, he almost
hides inside his own mother.
جازَ في اللُؤمِ حَدَّهُ
كَأَبيهِ وَعَمُّهُ
In meanness he has passed all bounds,
like his father and his uncle.
كادَ يُعديكَ لُؤمَهُ
لَو تَسَمَّيتَ بِاِسمِهِ
His meanness would almost infect you
if you so much as named yourself after him.
