1. A gleaming lightning bolt embroiders the robe of night,

    while water pours from its fire, then spreads abroad.

  2. Its redness blazed upon the face of the earth,

    as though it were a blaze on a noble steed, or a piebald marking.

  3. Whenever gold stretched from it across its expanses,

    silver streamed down from its edges.

  4. As it flashed upon the brow of the rainclouds, it seemed

    like chains of pure gold whose links cannot be seen.

  5. Thunder rumbles, and lightning flashes in snatches;

    the rain gushes forth, and the torrent surges on.

  6. The wild lote tree is drowned beneath its swelling waters,

    and the valley bend chokes on the flood coursing through it.

  7. The clouds are silk, and the pools among the winding dunes are chain mail;

    the meadow is embroidery, and the hilltop blossoms are fine silk.

  8. The meadow is adorned by fresh, luxuriant green grass,

    and the grass is brightened by blossoms of purest white.
