  5. Of all his wealth, the wealthy person possesses nothing

    except what he gives away and what he consumes.

  6. Wealth is no true wealth for one who merely amasses it;

    it belongs instead to the one who spends it.

  7. Through earnest striving, what is feared is warded off,

    and through earnest striving, what is hoped for is attained.

  8. Poverty has never ceased to accompany

    the one who dallies and the one who grows idle.

  9. Though people may all be children of one father,

    the best among them is the one whose legacy is fairest.
