أُفَضِّلُ الوَردَ عَلى النَرجِسِ

لا أَجعَلُ الأَنجُمَ كَالأَشمُسِ

I prefer the rose to the narcissus

I do not make the stars like the sun

لَيسَ الَّذي يَقعُدُ في مَجلِسٍ

مِثلَ الَّذي يَمثُلُ في المَجلِسِ

Not the same is he who sits in an assembly

As he who plays a role in the assembly
