تَرى النارِنجَ في وَرَقٍَ نَضيرٍ
فَتَحسَبُهُ عَقيقاً في زَبَرجَد
You behold the bitter orange amid its fresh, green leaves,
And take it for carnelian set in chrysolite;
وَأُترُجَّ عَلى الأَغصانِ يَزهى
كَما رَفَعَ الفَتى قِنديلَ عَسجَد
While citron upon the boughs gleams proudly,
Like a youth holding aloft his lamp of gold.
