إِذا تَحَلّى بِالعِذارِ وَمَشى
قُلتَ فَتاةٌ تَتَصَدّى لِفَتى
When he adorned himself with down along his cheeks and walked,
I said, “A maiden is vying with a youth!”
كَأَنَّهُ تَحتَ الحِلِيِّ رَوضَةٌ
دَرَّ عَلَيها الزَهرُ أَخلافَ الحَيا
As though beneath his ornaments he were a meadow
whose blossoms had milked the udders of the rain.
