قَد تَخَطّاكَ شَبابُ
وَتَغَشّاكَ مَشيبُ
Youth has passed you by,
and gray old age has shrouded you.
فَأَتى ما لَيسَ يَمضي
وَمَضى ما لا يَؤوبُ
That which will not depart has come,
and that which never returns has gone.
فَتَأَهَّب لِسِقامٍ
لَيسَ يَشفيهِ طَبيبُ
So ready yourself for a sickness
that no physician can cure.
لا تَوَهَّمهُ بَعيداً
إِنَّما الآتي قَريبُ
Do not imagine it far away:
what is coming is near.
