1. Time came early to greet us with its good fortune,

    and held back from us the force of its adversity.

  2. September came to us rejoicing,

    praising Time for its blessings.

  3. Do you not see the softness of its air

    matching the softness of its water?

  4. Look upon its many kinds of fruit,

    gathered within the coolness of its bosom.

  5. The breaths of the east wind wafted over them,

    nipping them in the chill of its open reaches.

  6. Do you not see the beauty of its Mullāḥī grapes,

    offered to the splendor of its downy peaches?

  7. Look at its pomegranate, laughing—

    its red gleaming against its white.
