لَهُ وَجنَتا وَردٍ وَعَينا غَزالَةٍ
وَغُرَّةَ إِصباحٍ وَطُرَّةَ غَيهَبِ
He has cheeks of roses and the eyes of a gazelle,
the radiant brow of dawn and a forelock of deepest darkness.
وَصَدغٌ يُناجي الأُذنَ وَهوَ مُعَقرَبٌ
وَطَوراً يُناغي الخَدَّ غَيرَ مُعَقرَبِ
And a temple-lock that whispers to the ear, curled like a scorpion,
and at times coos to the cheek, not curled like a scorpion.
لَهُ مِن ظَلامِ اللَيلِ أَحسَنَ مَلبَسٍ
وَفَوقَ ضِياءِ الصُبحِ أَحسَنُ مَلعَبِ
It has the loveliest raiment, fashioned from the darkness of night,
and upon dawn’s radiance, the loveliest playground.
