وَإِذا شَتَوتُ أَمِنتُ لَسعَةَ عَقرَبٍ
كَالنارِ طارَت مِن زِنادِ القادِحِ
And when I pass the winter, I am safe from a scorpion’s sting—
like fire, it flew from the fire-striker’s flint.
قَد خِلتُها تَمشي بِسَبحَةِ عابِدٍ
كَلّا لَقَد تَمشي بِصَعدَةِ رامِحِ
I had thought it moved along a worshipper’s prayer beads;
no—it truly moves along a spearman’s lance.
