Water and air donned purity,
and the meadow clothed itself in joy and splendor.
The pools seemed to have become gardens,
and the gardens seemed to have turned to pools.
The air seemed to have become pure wine,
and the pure wine seemed to have become air.
By night, you would take the sky for earth,
and by day, you would see the earth as sky.
The rain clouds mantled her in white and yellow blooms,
the day she sat drinking with the rain clouds.
Thus you see her, poised between rain and bloom,
balancing smiles and tears.
The trees remain, making beauty
a shirt, or loveliness a cloak.
When they bore fruit, they put on earrings,
and when they leafed, they arrayed themselves in striped silk.
You see the cypresses, like pulpits, standing resplendent,
and see the birds above them as preachers.
