تَحَرَّكَتِ الشَمالُ فَقَرَّ لَيلي
فَهاتِ الراحَ مِن أَيدي المِلاحِ
The north wind stirred, and my night grew cold.
So bring the wine from the hands of the fair ones.
جَرادُ الجَمرِ يَستُرُهُ رَمادٌ
كَمِثلِ الوَردِ يَستُرهُ الأَقاحي
Ash veils the ember’s locust swarm,
as daisies veil a rose.
وَأَنفاسُ الرِياضِ مُقَطَّراتٌ
تَطيرُ بِهِنَّ أَنفاسُ الرِياحِ
The gardens’ breaths are distilled perfumes;
the breaths of the winds fly with them.
وَأَردِيَةِ الظَلامِ مُمسِكاتٍ
مُطَرَّزَةَ الحَواشي كَالصَباحِ
The clouds’ robes are steeped in musk,
their borders embroidered like the dawn.
