لَيلٍ كَما نَفَضَ الغُرابُ جَناحَهُ
مُتَبَقِّعُ الأَعلى بَهيمُ الأَسفَلِ
A night as though a raven had shaken out its wing,
Mottled in its heights, pitch-black below.
تَبدو الكَواكِبُ مِن فُتوقِ ظَلامِهِ
لَمعَ الأَسِنَّةِ مِن فُتوقِ القَسطَلِ
The stars appear through rents in its darkness,
Like the gleam of spearheads through rents in battle-dust.
وَتَرى الكَواكِبَ في المَجَرَّةِ شُرَّعاً
مِثلَ الظِباءِ كَوارِعاً في جَدوَلِ
And you see the stars entering the Milky Way,
Like gazelles wading in a stream.
