By your life, it has left us no repose—

an illness through which you could not stir.

Time shot at you almost in passing; yet

when it shot, it struck the very heart of noble virtues.

And when it afflicted you, I too was afflicted with grief,

so no one can distinguish my affliction from yours.

You were stricken with it, yet you showed it no fear,

while high glory feared for you when it afflicted you.

You bore it patiently, and were not created fainthearted,

to weep in adversity, even to make a show of weeping.

And even if you are made to suffer every kind of evil,

your suffering will never, ever come to an end.
