قُلتُ لِلكَلبِ حينَ مَرَّ بِيَ اِخسَأ
فَكَأَنّي كَوَيتُ قَلبَكَ كَيّا
I said to the dog as it passed me, “Begone!”
And it was as though I had cauterized your heart.
أَتَرى أَنَّني أَعُدُّكَ كَلباً
أَنتَ عِندي إِذا نَبَحتَ الثُرَيّا
Do you suppose that I count you a dog?
In my eyes, if you bark, you are the Pleiades.
