1. If among affection’s rights in love

    is that you sever the bond between us, then sever it.

  2. I forfeited my right to seek sanctuary in your affection;

    deluded is anyone who seeks sanctuary in your affection.

  3. You wronged me, then claimed that I was the wrongdoer—

    and what a wonder: a wrongdoer crying injustice!

  4. I shall surely withdraw far from you, my spirit cast down,

    and surely endure being without you, though my nose be ground in dust.

  5. If I could, I would repay you in kind for your deeds,

    but I cannot; therefore I swallow my anger.

  6. Perhaps the wheel of time will turn in my favor,

    until it comes back to the course that is more just.
