أُواصِلُ الهَمَّ في ضيقٍ وَفي سَعَةٍ
كَأَنَّ بَيني وَبَينَ الهَمِّ أَرحاما
I keep company with sorrow, in hardship and in ease;
As though between sorrow and me lay ties of blood.
إِنَّ اِمرَأً عَظُمَت في الناسِ هِمَّتُهُ
رَأى السُرورَ جَوىً وَالوَفرَ إِعداما
Truly, a man whose aspiration towers among men
Sees delight as torment, and plenty as poverty.
