To the grief of noble deeds and lofty glory,
his home became desolate, his dwelling a barren waste.
Do you not see that valor, after him, has become
paralyzed, and generosity has become maimed?
Pass by the grave of the revered chief, you two, and behold
glory and exalted rank—how they have bowed low.
Though the earth has covered him, pronounce four takbirs
over generosity, kindness, and virtue.
And never tire of wailing for him again and again,
or of echoing laments for the loss of noble benefactions.
For Qays's death was no single death;
rather, a whole people's edifice collapsed.
Do not suppose, you two, that I bury him alone:
I have buried him and munificence together.
