يَفتُنُ القَلبَ بِخَدِّ
لَم يَدَع لِلوَردِ قَدرا
He bewitches the heart with a cheek
that has left the rose no worth—
مِثلَما تَكتُبُ بِالمِسكِ
عَلى الكافورِ شَطرا
as when you write in musk
a half-verse upon camphor.
وَعِذارٌ يَسحُرُ الصَبَّ
وَما يَعرِفُ سِحرا
And cheek-down that enchants the lover,
though it knows no sorcery,
وَبِصَدغٍ دارَ في الخَدِّ
كَما تُعقَدُ عِشرا
and a temple-lock curling across the cheek
as the figure ten is formed.
كُلَّما أَظلَمَ لَيلي
كانَ لي وَجهُكَ فَجرا
Whenever my night grew dark,
your face was dawn to me.
