رَخيمٌ فاتِرُ اللَحظِ

رَشيقٌ مُخطَفُ الخَصرِ

رَشيقٌ مُخطَفُ الخَصرِ

Soft-voiced, with a languid gaze,

graceful and slender-waisted,

وَقَد عُمِّمَ بِاللَيلِ

وَقَد عُمِّمَ بِاللَيلِ

وَقَد قُنِّعَ بِالفَجرِ

وَقَد قُنِّعَ بِالفَجرِ

turbaned in night,

and veiled in dawn.

وَما يَنفَعُني حُسنُكَ

وَما يَنفَعُني حُسنُكَ

يا أَحسَنَ مِن بَدرِ

يا أَحسَنَ مِن بَدرِ

Yet your beauty avails me nothing,

O you lovelier than the full moon,

إِذا كانَ نَصيبي مِنكَ

إِذا كانَ نَصيبي مِنكَ

طولَ البَينِ وَالهَجرِ

طولَ البَينِ وَالهَجرِ

if my allotted share of you is

prolonged separation and estrangement.
