أَلوانُ ياقوتٍ يُريكَ حُسنَها

أَلوانَ ياقوتٍ زَها في عِقدِهِ

أَلوانَ ياقوتٍ زَها في عِقدِهِ

Ruby hues reveal their beauty to you—

ruby colors gleaming in his necklace.

يا حُسنَها في كَفِّ مَن يُشبِهُها

يا حُسنَها في كَفِّ مَن يُشبِهُها

فَاِنظُر إِلى النَدِّ بِكَفِّ نَدِّهِ

فَاِنظُر إِلى النَدِّ بِكَفِّ نَدِّهِ

How lovely they are in the hand of one who resembles them!

Behold the counterpart in the palm of its counterpart:

مِن أَشهَلٍ كَعَينِهِ وَأَبيَضٍ

مِن أَشهَلٍ كَعَينِهِ وَأَبيَضٍ

كَثَغرِهِ وَأَحمَرٍ كَخَدِّهِ

كَثَغرِهِ وَأَحمَرٍ كَخَدِّهِ

among them, one blue-gray as his eye, and one white

as his teeth; one red as his cheek,

وَأَصفَرٍ مِثلَ صَريعِ حُبِّهِ

وَأَصفَرٍ مِثلَ صَريعِ حُبِّهِ

إِذا تَغَشّاهُ غَواشي صَدِّهِ

إِذا تَغَشّاهُ غَواشي صَدِّهِ

and one yellow as a lover felled by love of him,

when the shadows of his rebuff envelop him.
